Harvard Medical School Center for Bioethics is proud to announce that its Director, Dr. Rebecca Brendel, has been named President-Elect of the Massachusetts Medical Society (MMS). In her new role, Dr. Brendel will help advance MMS’s mission to promote medical knowledge, uphold the highest ethical and professional standards, and advocate for the health and welfare of all Massachusetts residents. MMS officers are elected by their House of Delegates and serve one-year terms.
"It is great privilege to serve the physicians and patients in the Commonwealth at this time of pivotal need for our health and wellbeing," said Dr. Brendel, "I am excited to rise to the challenge of leading in these challenging times for health care as the Commonwealth inspires the nation, and the world, in evidence-based sustainable policy and practice solutions for our health care system."
Established in 1781, MMS is a leading professional association representing more than 24,000 physicians and medical students across the state. MMS supports the medical community through educational initiatives, health policy advocacy, and the development of practice standards. It also engages in public health programming and legislative advocacy to improve health care quality and access. MMS is perhaps best known as the publisher of the New England Journal of Medicine, the world's oldest continuously published medical journal.
