Emmanuella Amoako, MD, has been announced as this year's Roux Prize recipient, presented by the Institute for Health Metrics and Evaluation. Her leadership and advocacy will be celebrated at an award ceremony in London this October. The prize includes a $100,000 award for using evidence to improve early diagnosis, expand access to treatment, and advance locally led cancer research in Ghana.
Dr. Amoako has advanced childhood cancer care to populations in Ghana as Lead Pediatric Oncologist at Cape Coast Teaching Hospital, where she has built evidence-backed services that improve early diagnosis, expand access to treatment, and strengthen locally led research. Her work has resulted in the development of a community-driven program designed to reduce delays in childhood cancer diagnoses by training primary health care workers and parents to recognize warning signs and connect patients with specialized care.
Dr. Amoako is currently a Cancer Genetics Fellow at The Hospital for Sick Children (SickKids) in Toronto, Director of Clinical Affairs at Yemaachi Biotech, Secretary of the Childhood Cancer Society of Ghana, part-time lecturer at the University of Cape Coast School of Medical Sciences, and student pursuing a Master of Science in Bioethics at Harvard Medical School.
