Piroska Kopar, MD, MBA, FACS is a trauma and critical care surgeon, and cardiothoracic surgical intensivist at Washington University in Saint Louis. She received her MD from Emory University School of Medicine and her MBA from Olin Business School at Washington University in Saint Louis. Dr. Kopar's work focuses on medical ethics as it applies to surgical specialties, and she has founded and directs the Surgical Ethics Fellowship at CHESS (Center for Humanism and Ethics in Surgical Specialties) at Wash U. She is particularly interested in the implications and limits of surgical informed consent as they relate to prolonged intensive care.
