
Paul L. Romain, MD, SM
Paul L. Romain, MD, SM is a rheumatologist at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. He received his BS from the University of Illinois, Champaign-Urbana, his MD from the U. of Illinois, Chicago, and SM (Master of Science) in Bioethics from Harvard Medical School; he completed a medical residency at New York University and New York Veterans Administration Hospital, and rheumatology/immunology fellowship at University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center and Parkland Hospital, Dallas, and was a Fellow in Medical Ethics at HMS. He served on the ethics committees of University of Massachusetts Medical Center, Lahey Clinic, and Cambridge Health Alliance, as an ethics consultant and educator at Lahey and CHA, a member of the Lahey IRB, as a member and Chair of the Committee on Ethics and Conflict of Interest of the American College of Rheumatology, where he led the development of conflict of interest guidelines for College leadership, was a member of the Harvard Ethics Leadership Group, and is a member of the BIDMC Ethics Liaison group. His interests include outpatient clinical ethics, clinical- and research-related conflicts of interest and professionalism, rationing, and ethics education. He has spoken and written on these and related areas and was honored as a Master of the American College of Rheumatology.
