Kathleen McFadden, MD

Kathleen McFadden, MD, is a nephrologist and clinical ethicist at Mass General Brigham. She serves as Director of Ethics at Brigham and Women's Faulkner Hospital and as a senior ethics consultant on the Optimum Care Committee at Massachusetts General Hospital. Dr. McFadden completed her residency and chief residency at MGH, followed by fellowships in Point-of-Care Ultrasound at MGH and Nephrology through the combined MGH/BWH program.

Dr. McFadden's clinical and academic interests focus on the ethical and clinical use of renal replacement therapy in patients with advanced medical illness, as well as the complex challenges surrounding legal guardianship and surrogate medical decision-making in critically ill hospitalized patients. She is also dedicated to improving patient-physician communication and to supporting multidisciplinary care teams in navigating ethically complex clinical situations, with the goal of promoting thoughtful decision-making.
