
Erwin Jiayuan Khoo, MBBS, FRCPCH
Associate Professor Erwin Jiayuan Khoo, MBBS, FRCPCH is the Head of the Pediatrics Department at the International Medical University (IMU), Malaysia. He received his medical degree from IMU University and is a registered specialist in pediatrics with the Malaysian Medical Council. He holds a Fellowship from the Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (UK) and completed his Fellowship in Bioethics at Harvard Medical School. Dr. Khoo is a practicing pediatrician and bioethicist with significant contributions to child health, refugee and migrant health, and bioethics scholarship in Malaysia. He chairs the Malaysian Paediatric Association's Bioethics Task Force, serves on the Council of both the Academy of Medicine of Malaysia College of Paediatrics and the Malaysian Paediatric Association, and is an active member of numerous committees and advisory boards. Throughout his early medical career, he dedicated his expertise to serving in various district hospitals, one of which he pioneered and implemented the use of non-invasive ventilation and total parenteral nutrition for premature newborns.
His bioethical interests focus on pediatric bioethics, organizational ethics and decision-making frameworks, ethics in research and biotechnology, the ethical complexities of healthcare delivery and global health practices, as well as diversity, equity, and inclusion. He has received several awards over the years, including the Excellence in Service Award from the Malaysian Ministry of Health, the Young Investigator Award from the Perinatal Society of Malaysia, and the IMU Alumni Award, recognizing his commitment to healthcare and education.
