
Daniel Moreno De Luca, MD, MSc
Daniel Moreno De Luca, MD MSc is the CASA Research Chair, and Associate Professor and Principal Investigator of the Precision Medicine in Autism (PRISMA) Group at the University of Alberta, as well as the Director of Genomic Psychiatry & Psychiatric Genetic Counseling Services, and an attending Child, Adolescent, and Adult Psychiatrist at Recovery Alberta. He received his MD from the Universidad Industrial de Santander in Colombia, his Masters in Neuroscience at the Pierre et Marie Curie - Sorbonne Université in France, and completed his postdoctoral fellowship in Neurogenetics at Emory University, his psychiatry residency at Yale University, and his Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship at Brown University. His work focuses on understanding the rare genetic causes of autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions with the goal of using this key information to enhance patient care, working closely with the communities he serves, and spanning research, education, clinical care, and advocacy. His work has established 17q12 deletions as one of the strongest genetic risk factors for autism and other neurodevelopmental conditions, and has led to the implementation of standard of care genetic counseling and testing on diverse healthcare systems. He is interested on the complex and important ethical questions that arise from leveraging genetic data for patient care at the population and individual level.
