Katherine R. Peeler, MD, is a pediatric critical care physician at Boston Children's Hospital. She received her MD from Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth, completed her pediatrics training at University of Michigan, and fellowship in critical care at Boston Children's Hospital. Within the intensive care unit (ICU), Dr. Peeler is particularly interested in end-of-life care for children and their surviving families, and outside of the ICU, she spends much of her time devoted to working with adults and children seeking asylum in the U.S. Specifically, she is an expert on the health and health rights of detained immigrant children and adults and has written extensively on this topic as well as served as an expert witness in multiple legal cases on behalf of this population. From a bioethics perspective, she is interested in the concept of divergent directives/dual loyalties and how care providers navigate opposing mandates within a care system. She is the recipient of the Geisel School of Medicine Young Alumni Award as well as the Harvard Medical School Dean's Community Service Faculty Award.
