Master of Science in Bioethics student Brenda Kubheka, MD wrote an opinion piece for South Africa's News24 about the excessive red tape that makes hospital admission unnecessarily difficult for some of her patients, due to pre-authorization requirements. Kubheka writes, "I am unsure if I should applaud these patients for having me fight for their rights or take a step back and start thinking about those without loud voices, including others needing someone to advocate for them." She invokes the term “hassle factor” to describe the burden that these restrictions place on patients, and wonders, "What happens to patients and families who do not understand their rights?...For patients, the hassle may lead to delayed care or foregoing the care altogether."
