The ethical complexities of mitochondrial replacement therapy

Center faculty member Vardit Ravitsky, PhD, has a new open-access paper, "Mitochondrial Replacement Therapy: In Whose Interests?" in the Journal of Law, Medicine, and Ethics. The paper looks at the ethical complexities underlying the use of mitochondrial replacement therapy, a novel form of in-vitro fertilization (IVF) through which a childbearing person’s mitochondrial DNA is replaced with the mitochondrial DNA of a donor, to prevent certain diseases in the fetus.
