In 2015, the Boston Medical Center appointed Thea James to the newly created role of vice president of mission and associate chief medical officer. The mission officer role is common at Catholic Institutions, but rare in the secular world. At the consortium, Dr. James will describe her two and a half year experience in the role. There will be ample opportunity for questions and discussion.

Health care is often described as a "calling." In Catholic organizations, the call to serve the Mission is understood as coming from God. But how is the concept of "calling" to be understood at secular organizations? The January Organizational Ethics Consortium will allow participants to reflect on how secular organizations can best make mission statements a living influence, not just words on a page.
