Brian Michael Cummings, MD, is a pediatric intensivist in the Department of Pediatrics at Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) and Associate Chief Medical Officer for MassGeneral Brigham, responsible for its high reliability organization (HRO) structure and implementation. He received his undergraduate degree with honors at Boston College with a senior thesis on physician assisted suicide and received his medical degree from University of Connecticut with subsequent residency and fellowship training at MGH. A graduate of the HMS ethics certificate program, he has led the pediatric ethics committee at MGH for over a decade and teaches both medical students in the HMS ethics curriculum as well as masters students as faculty for clinical ethics. Brian's interests are in pediatric, professional and organizational ethics as well as process improvement, and he has published and lectured on these various areas extensively. His current role focuses on patient outcomes as a driver for organizational decision making at MGB.
