Timeline

We are accepting applications for the Fall 2018 cohort.  Although most spots for the Fall 2018 class are filled, we still welcome applications from working professionals who wish to matriculate this fall. Interested applicants are encouraged to apply as early as possible for consideration.  

General Requirements
  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent (no specific undergraduate major is required)
  • Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or higher (3.5 or higher for Post-Bac applicants)
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and analysis
Application Requirements
  • Completed online application form 
  • Official or unofficial transcripts
  • Curriculum Vitae
  • Statement of academic purpose or Personal Statement (500-750 words)
    Your personal statement is your opportunity to share with the committee why you are interested in obtaining a Master of Bioethics degree at this point in your career.
    Consider including the following: What drew you to bioethics?  What experiences have you had that prepared you to enter a graduate degree program?  What would you like to do once you obtain a Master of Bioethics degree?  Why do you want to get your MBE degree from Harvard Medical School?  (These prompts are suggestions and not required)
  • Three letters of recommendation – Names and email addresses of your references will be entered into the application portal. Recommenders will be contacted with instructions to submit their recommendation letters.
  • Application Fee of $100 payable by credit card
  • Optional: Official scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test or equivalent (MCAT or LSAT) . GRE scores should be sent to Institution Code 0550.
Post-Baccalaureate Candidates
  • Recent graduates applying to the program as a post-bac require a minimum 3.5 GPA
  • Optional: Official scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test or equivalent (MCAT or LSAT)
International Candidates
  • Students whose native language is not English must also include proof of English proficiency (TOEFL)* or IELTS.  The program requires a minimum score of 100 on the TOEFL and/or a 7 on the IELTS.*
  • International students must fulfill visa requirements

*A copy of an official TOEFL or IELTS score report from any applicant whose native language is not English is required. The only exemption from this requirement is anyone who earned a bachelor's or graduate degree from an institution at which English was the sole language of instruction. Applicants who took the TOEFL more than three years ago must repeat the test. The program prefers applicants to submit scores from the Internet based test (IBT) of the TOEFL.
