Timeline

We are currently accepting and reviewing applications for Fall 2017 admission.  Interested applicants are encouraged to apply online as early as possible.  The deadline for our next review of Fall 2017 application consideration is February 15, 2017. Applications submitted after February 15, 2017 may be considered on a case-by-case basis, space permitting. 

General Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree or its equivalent (no specific undergraduate major is required)
  • Cumulative undergraduate grade point average of 3.0 or higher (3.5 or higher for Post-Bac applicants)
  • Ability to demonstrate critical thinking and analysis

Application Requirements

Post-Baccalaureate Candidates

  • Recent graduates applying to the program as a post-bac require a minimum 3.5 GPA
  • Optional: Official scores on the Graduate Record Examination (GRE) general test or equivalent (MCAT or LSAT)
  • Strongly encouraged to submit application prior to December 16, 2016 for consideration

International Candidates

  • Students whose native language is not English must also include proof of English proficiency (TOEFL)* or IELTS.  The program requires a minimum score of 100 on the TOEFL and/or a 7 on the IELTS.*
  • International students must fulfill visa requirements

*A copy of an official TOEFL or IELTS score report from any applicant whose native language is not English is required. The only exemption from this requirement is anyone who earned a bachelor's or graduate degree from an institution at which English was the sole language of instruction. Applicants who took the TOEFL more than three years ago must repeat the test. The program prefers applicants to submit scores from the Internet based test (IBT) of the TOEFL.

*The Center for Bioethics TOEFL test score number is B076

Official Transcripts 

One official transcript is required from each post-secondary institution at which you have attempted course work, regardless of whether credit was earned.

Official transcripts must be received directly from the institution's registrar in a sealed envelope with a signature (or other official marking) across the seal and sent directly to the address below. If transcripts are not in English, please send the official original transcript and a version translated into English.

Letters of Recommendation

Please supply letters of recommendation from three referees. The referee must send the letter of recommendation directly to the program by email or mail.

Be certain to complete Part 1 of the Master of Bioethics Recommendation Form completely and follow all instructions before forwarding to your referee. Please email bioethics_masters@hms.harvard.edu with any questions. Please have the referees mail or email the recommendation form and your letter of recommendation to:
