Building a Bridge2AI

The NIH grants won by Center faculty members Francis Shen, JD, PhD, and Vardit Ravitsky, PhD, were featured in a Harvard Crimson story. The NIH program Bridge to Artificial Intelligence, or Bridge2AI, has funded four projects, including Shen's and Ravitsky's, all working to integrate AI into health care.

Shen described his research to the Crimson: "One of the foundational ideas is that rather than wait for problems to arise, you want to do anticipatory governance — you want to think about research and innovation."

Ravitsky spoke to the Crimson about the goals of her Bridge2AI project: "A part of the mission should be to create...technologies in a way that closes the health gap between the Global South and the Global North, between those who have more or less within countries, rather than exacerbate these gaps once again. If we standardize things and ... make diagnostic tools and decision-making more accessible, then we’re closing gaps between different environments that have different levels of resources."
