Fellow in Bioethics

Irina Anselm, MD, is an attending physician in neurology at Boston Children’s Hospital. She received her MD from St. Petersburg Pediatric Medical University in Russia. As more and more genetic testing options become available, the more ethical dilemmas arise in areas such as the dissemination of test results, health care coverage, and public health care policy; she is interested in these ethical aspects surrounding genetic testing. She received the Making a Change for Mito Award from the MitoAction: Mitochondrial Disease Action Committee.

Staff Assistant

Paula joined the Center for Bioethics in February 2016. She is responsible for managing event logistics for weekly consortia, special lectures, and other events. She is primary staff contact for the Center’s Community Ethics Committee and the Ethics Leadership Group, whose members represent Harvard Medical School’s affiliated hospital’s ethics programs.

Mark Barnes

Mark focuses his practice in the area of research, advising clients throughout higher education and the health care industry, including pharmaceutical companies, medical device manufacturers, hospitals, and universities. He has extensive experience in legal issues related to research with humans and animals, stem cell and genetic research, research grants and contracts, research misconduct, and international research. Mark also frequently advises clients on clinical trials compliance, Medicare reimbursement, False Claims Act issues, and medical privacy.

Lisa Bastille
Program and Financial Administrator

As the program and finance administrator Lisa Bastille, MSc., is part of the Center’s leadership and manages the daily operations of the Center. A longstanding member of the Harvard community, Ms. Bastille has held positions in communications, institute organization, finance, and grant and contracts.  She earned her undergraduate degree in Human Development and Women Studies from Suffolk University, and earned her Master in Science in Business Management and Research Administration at Emmanuel College.

Barbara Bierer

Fellow in Bioethics

Elizabeth Boskey, PhD, MPH, LICSW, is a social worker and researcher in the Center for Gender Surgery at Boston Children’s Hospital. She received her PhD in biophysics and her MPH from Johns Hopkins University with a focus on women's reproductive biology and health, and her MSSW from the University of Louisville. She is interested in ethical questions at the intersection of reproductive rights, fertility regulation, and transgender medicine. Elizabeth is the author of several popular science books for children and adults.

Associate Professor of Psychiatry

J. Wesley Boyd, MD, PhD is on faculty at the Center for Bioethics and in Psychiatry at Harvard Medical School, is a staff psychiatrist at Cambridge Health Alliance (CHA), and is the co-founder and co-director of the Human Rights and Asylum Clinic at CHA. At Cambridge, he is a psychiatrist for one of the principle training and teaching teams and works closely with psychiatry residents and medical students, along with staff members and trainees in various other mental health disciplines. Dr. Boyd graduated with a BA cum laude from Yale in philosophy.

Lynne C. Brady Wagner, MA, CCC-SLP
Director, Stroke Rehabilitation Program

Lynne Brady Wagner, MA, CCC-SLP is a speech-language pathologist and is the Director of the Stroke Program and the Chair of the Ethics Advisory Committee at Spaulding Rehabilitation Hospital in Boston, Massachusetts. She earned a graduate certificate in Healthcare Ethics from Rush University Medical School and was a Disability Ethics Fellow at Rehabilitation Institute of Chicago and the MacLean Center for Clinical Medical Ethics at the University of Chicago.

Allan M. Brandt, PhD
Amalie Moses Kass Professor of the History of Medicine in the Department of Social Medicine (In the Faculty of Medicine)

Allan M. Brandt is the Amalie Moses Kass Professor of the History of Medicine and Professor of the History of Science.  He holds a joint appointment between the Faculty of Arts and Sciences and Harvard Medical School.  Brandt served as Dean of the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences from 2008 to 2012.  He earned his undergraduate degree at Brandeis University and a Ph.D.
